OIL & GAS
The Oil & Gas industry is characterised by remote exploration locations and isolated pumping stations upstream, and by highly complex and dangerous industrial refineries and gas plants downstream.
PROJECT: Cross Industry oil and gas support – digitally enabled connected worker platform
In May 2018 the UK oil & gas industry, led by the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (“OGTC”) in Aberdeen, held a workshop to determine the key enabler to speed up the adoption of digital worker technologies across the sector. The conclusion from the industry was that the industry required a single cross-industry connected worker platform which could be deployed anywhere in the world, and onto which oil majors and their supply chains could attach smart devices relevant to each, from a variety of device manufacturers.
In January 2019 our connected worker platform was selected by the OGTC for development into that common platform. The OGTC has led investment into a project supported by BP, Wood, Stork, Draeger and Tampnet to:
· Ensure that the hardware elements of our platform meet intrinsically safe certifications standards
· Ensure that the software elements of our platform meet the reliability, scalability and security standards required by those companies for integration into their own I.T systems
· Pilot the platform in early 2020 across a number of sites upstream and downstream operated by the project partners
Step change in worker safety data quality and relevance
Create an intelligent health & safety ecosystem
Earlier visibility of incident leading indicators
Identify workplace hotspots & creeping changes
Enable easier, more efficient ways of working
Safer data-led working practices & incident prevention
Reduced worker exposure risk & corporate risk
Optimised workforce productivity
