Construction sites are some of the most dangerous working environments in the world, illustrated by the construction industry consistently leading the all-industries league table of occupational fatalities
PROJECT: Working together to deliver smart garment safety solutions
T2S, a French manufacturer of high-visibility products and PPE partnered with ELEKSEN to reduce the risk of collisions between workers and equipment on construction sites. Eurovia Vinci, a leading infrastructure and urban development specialist, adopted our solution, together with a compatible Proximity Warning System (PWS). This allowed the setting of a safety distance between worker and machine. The operator was equipped with a two-way alert whereby the PPE vest vibrate and the eleven LEDs, visible at 400 metres, flash simultaneously. At the same time, the driver of the vehicle is also alerted to the proximity of the pedestrian, thanks to a light and sound box in the cabin. The latter is fixed by magnet and works wirelessly with a rechargeable battery. Outside, a light and sound beacon also signals the machine. Detection is carried out within a 360 degree radius and up to ten metres in distance. It is waterproof and dustproof and is a major factor in reducing the risks of vehicle and worker collisions.
“We tested ELEKSEN connected vests on a major three-week motorway project last March. Fifteen pedestrians, operators responsible for manual cleaning, and four sweepers were equipped. The device has been well accepted by its users and has demonstrated its effectiveness. With the ELEKSEN system, the fact that the two parties are alerted makes it possible to climb up a notch in terms of shared vigilance. “
